Nvidia contraband cards found after high-speed boat tracking

No more a week after a Chinese bust involving cheaters and luxury car makers, Authorities seized hundreds of smuggled Nvidia cards after a motor boat chase in the waters near Hong Kong International Airport.

As Tom’s Hardware they translated, from the Chinese outlet TVB newsOver the weekend, police saw a fishing boat anchored suspiciously near the airport at 2 a.m. and, during the investigation, found men carrying goods from the fishing boat to a nearby motor boat.

As police approached, “shady men jumped on the motorboat and headed for inland waters,” police pursued “a high-speed boat chase.” The smugglers managed to escape, but authorities then withdrew and searched for the fishing boat, where they found shark fins, smartphones and “up to 300 unidentified graphics cards.”

Although it bears no markings, it is believed that the cards are Nvidia CMP 30HXs, GPUs created specifically for cryptomining which, although not very good at work, are still in high demand at the moment, with global shortcomings affecting providing more desirable hardware.
