Will Novak Djokovic ever learn?
Men’s tennis star no. 1, hot, lost his cool again on Tuesday, hitting his racket against the field on the way to a victory in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open.
Djokovic got angry and scored on the court after losing a point to Alexander Zverev in the third set.
The 33-year-old Serb returned for a 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory in front of No. 6 seed, while looking to adds a ninth Australian Open title to his men’s record.
“I regained my attention after I broke the rocket,” Djokovic said in a field interview. “Things have started to change a little for me in a positive direction.”
“It was a relief for me, but I wouldn’t recommend this type of sewer if you want to name it,” Djokovic told reporters later. “Of course I’m not proud of that, but you’re going through a lot of different emotions, you’re going through an inner battle. Everyone is different. I have my own demons to fight. “
Djokovic has been fighting demons for some time.
He was most recently disqualified from the US Open in September after hitting a ball of frustration and inadvertently hitting a line judge in the neck.
That outburst cost him a 29-game winning streak.
“I will take this as deeply as possible for me as a great lesson,” Djokovic said at the time.
