Folding chairs and orange construction cones are just some of the elements that residents will use to claim their space.
“Savesies” is an unspoken rule in most neighborhoods, although you are not allowed to save a parking space in the city – that’s the law.
George Harvey says he has no problem moving the cone.
“Oh, yeah, I’ll move them. I don’t think that’s right. Everyone is digging,” Harvey said.
In South Philadelphia, it’s no secret that parking is paramount.
“Parking is usually difficult. With snow, it makes it difficult,” said one resident.
In bad weather, the inhabitants often resort to their old ways.
“I’ve used a cone before. (It is) definitely the way to go. I see a lot of people doing it, so why not join?” said Tommy Dempsey, a South Philly resident.
The city reminds residents that it is forbidden to save parking spaces. Those who take out their vehicles are asked not to throw snow on the street.
