North Dakota sees no new deaths due to COVID-19 for the next day

BISMARCK, ND (AP) – Health officials in North Dakota said Sunday that the COVID-19 state update did not indicate deaths for the second day in a row and showed another drop in hospitalizations.

The number of people in need of care in medical units has decreased by 13 in the last two days, to 72. Ten patients are currently being treated in intensive care units. The state hospital reported that there are 34 ICU beds with staff and 371 hospital beds available in North Dakota.

The number of deaths caused by coranvirus complications is 1,352. Data compiled on Saturday by Johns Hopkins University researchers ranks North Dakota sixth in the country per capita, at about 178 deaths per 100,000 people.

Health officials said 93 of the 3,352 virus tests processed on the last day came back positive, or 3.16% of them. A total of 94,716 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic.

The mask mandate throughout North Dakota is in effect until January 18th.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, which go away in two to three weeks. For some, especially the elderly and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illnesses, including pneumonia and death.
