NJ man hospitalized after J&J COVID-19 vaccine on ventilator

The New Jersey man who was hospitalized with COVID-19 after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was placed on a ventilator on Friday as his condition worsened, his daughter told The Post.

Francisco Cosme, 52, who fell ill despite receiving a jab five weeks earlier – was unconscious when his daughter, Michelle Torres, saw him briefly during a FaceTime call on Friday morning.

“She is OK. The doctors said right now that it is up to his body to continue “, said Torres, her voice trembling with emotion.

“He’s not conscious, we’re just looking at him,” she said.

Torres, who was not allowed to visit her father at the hospital because she also has COVID-19, said her family is heartbroken because of her health.

“It’s a lot, pray and you want the best. And it took a turn for the worse, “she said.

Cosme, who is diabetic, was put on a fan at 5 a.m. Friday – but the car’s “oxygen level” is “not where it should be,” she said.

Cosme began experiencing coronavirus symptoms, including coughing and chills, on April 1 after receiving the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine at the Javits Center on March 6. He was rushed to John F. Kennedy Medical Center last week, where he is still being treated.

Torres said he now wants Johnson & Johnson to do more research on the vaccine – and clarify that people can still be hospitalized with the coronavirus, even after they get the fire.

“Do more research and review [your] statement, ”she said.

In another case from New Jersey, 25-year-old Shannon Kelly of Tabernacle told The Post that she contracted COVID-19 earlier this month after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Kelly said she was shot on March 11 at a CVS in Clementon and felt good at first.

“Three weeks later, I had a cold, congestion and earache,” said Kelly, who works at a private school. “I lost my sense of smell and taste. I have a bad cough and difficulty breathing. ”

On Saturday, she tested positive for COVID-19, despite being fit and healthy, she said.

“I’ve been in bed for two weeks now,” she said, adding that her cough hadn’t subsided yet.

“[It’s] surprising. I knew Johnson & Johnson wasn’t as effective as the other two. However, I am young, healthy and fit. ”
