Nintendo to Discuss Upcoming Switching Games “at the Right Time”

No one can deny that Nintendo had one huge successfully in 2020. With operating profits up 98%, Animal Crossing: New Horizons reaching 31 million sales and a console market share of 87% in Japan, the company’s recent financial report confirmed that it has succeeded in extremely good lately.

Despite this, we haven’t heard much about the next range of software for 2021. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Rage arrives next week and We Pokémon Snap launches in April, but – outside Default brave II (which he publishes outside of Japan) – Nintendo’s current plans feel pretty empty.

Discussing these financial results during a conference call, a question was raised about Nintendo’s future software plans for the next fiscal year. In response, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed:

Our software program for next fiscal year is a topic we will discuss at the appropriate time. We have already announced our plans to launch Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury in February, followed by MONSTER HUNTER RISE in March (see note 1) and New Pokémon Snap in April (see note 2). As always, we are preparing a variety of consumer software titles for the next fiscal year.

So, in other words, we will have to wait and see. Nintendo doesn’t usually announce its upcoming games too early – except for the weird exceptions – so it’s not an unexpected response from Furukawa. For now, though, it seems unlikely we’ll hear anything new.
