It may not be a huge surprise, given that apparently Switch owners are the most likely to own another console, but in 2020, Nintendo Switch sold a lot of Xbox and PlayStation in the UK. That… a lot a lot.
It’s tempting to see this as a huge success for Nintendo and it is, but it’s also a huge success for us – the people who play games. More than ever, consoles are moving away from the idea of ”rival” consoles and moving away from the idea that video games are for kids and nerds, with family-friendly games, fitness games and even games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons which apparently led some people to buy additional household switches. Of course, a lot of Nintendo games are exclusive to Switch, and while Xbox and Sony have a fair share of exclusivity, they fade compared to Nintendo’s first-party offerings, only Switch, which is why many people seem to own a Switch. as well as another console.
With the addition of cheaper, just portable Lite switches for the younger ones and for anyone not worried about playing TV (and a few predictions about adding a Switch Pro in 2021), the Nintendo Switch family isn’t as big like the Xbox or PlayStation, which makes its sales even more impressive. Of course, we’ll probably have to wait a little longer to find out more about the Switch Pro … unless yesterday’s fake leak of a Nintendo Direct this weekend turns out to be true. (It will not be.)
