Nintendo Switch Leak reveals a huge feature cut before launch

A new Nintendo leak revealed a huge feature Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite, which was inexplicably cut before it first debuted in 2017. The news comes through the Nintendo archive and the 2014 document revealing a number of details about the console’s origins , including its original design, which bears no resemblance to the final product. In addition to revealing the original design of the console, the documents show that the plan was to include 3D video support to allow the console to be backwards compatible with the Nintendo 3DS.

It is not entirely clear whether Nintendo intended universal backing and it is not clear why this feature was abandoned, but the document shows that much of Nintendo’s early plans for the Switch were either cut before release or modified.

For example, while the Nintendo Switch boasted a 720p screen, in 2014, the plan was for the screen to be only 480p. Again, it’s not clear why Nintendo changed its mind here, but it’s a good thing.

Meanwhile, probably linking back to 3DS compatibility, Nintendo has not made a decision on whether the Switch would have one or two screens. Of course, it is very possible that 480p was on the table to facilitate the possibility of two screens.

At present, none of these details have been validated by Nintendo. In other words, while the documents leave little room for doubt, they and the information they disclose should still be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, if Nintendo provides any kind of commentary statement regarding the leaks, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.
