Nintendo Plugs Zelda: Skyward Sword HD with new “button only” control scheme

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Wii was originally built from the ground up for motion control.

As a result, there is a lot of swinging involved and, well, if you played in 2011, you might remember what a pretty great workout was like. Some players also encountered a number of problems – movement controls did not always work as intended and certain actions were not always recorded at the most important moments of the game if the movements were not performed correctly.

Fortunately, the HD version of the game coming on the Switch is ah …changing things, allowing players to use a more traditional method of control – aka. button and analog inputs. Although Nintendo made this quite clear during the game’s recent unveiling, it’s now spreading the word about this new control option, which means you can not only play this game on the go (and on a Switch Lite, by the way), but also makes it much more accessible.

In addition to the exclusive button control system, the Skyward Sword on the switch will also come with improved motion control support, thanks to updated technology from Joy-Con controllers. The controller on the right wields Link’s Sword, while the controller on the left will handle his shield. Like the original game, you will also be able to perform other actions with movement controls, such as shooting Link’s bow and arrow.
