Nintendo Executive has blocked the remake of GoldenEye 007, says the former developer rarely

There was a pretty historic moment in video game history last week when Rare canceled the XBLA remake / remaster. GoldenEye 007 was leaked on the internet. No one thought the game would see the light of day was actually released.

Following this, discussions about the license and the parties for and against the launch of the game immediately reappeared. At the time, I heard that Nintendo wasn’t to blame, but maybe it played a role.

Now, in a slight update, former Rare artist Ross Bury shared some additional information with Ars Technica, revealing how the game was approved by everyone at Nintendo – or so they thought until an executive of the company (which remains unknown) closed the project when it was already completed.

“When it was put on Nintendo, everyone there approved it, except that they didn’t check with the guy who mattered … I think I was told that his answer followed the line: ‘There’s no way a Nintendo game is coming out on a Microsoft console. “

Bury adds that “the executor’s orders outweighed everything,” which is believed to have included MGM and OEM handling of Bond video games at the time, according to Ars Technica.

Remember, this is just an account of what happened, there is still the possibility that the whole situation was not helped by MGM and co. In 2016, Xbox boss Phil Spencer, said GoldenEye 007 was “always a rights issue” rather than anything else.
