After a retro in 2016, the OG “Freshwater” color of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 will return next year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the model.
Made famous by “The Kid” Ken Griffey Jr. in 1996, Air Griffey Max 1 was an everyday coach-style version of the studs he wore on the diamond. With a black corrugated nubuck upper with a white leather base, the shoe uses a Nike boot construction and a secure strap, which wraps around the ankle. Tying this pair back to Griffey’s Seattle Mariners are the signatures of the “Water Fresh” freshwater shoes, which are accented in red.
Most recently, the OG “Emerald” color of the Air Griffey Max 1 inspired a new Nike SB Dunk Mid.
So far, no exact date has been set for this pair, but the arrival of the official images of the Nike product suggests that it could decrease sooner rather than later. Expect the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “freshwater” to be launched in early 2021.
UPDATE (01/09): The official images of the retro model “FreshWater” Nike Air Griffey Max 1 have surfaced and, according to the DTLR launch schedule, the pair should return on February 15 for $ 170.
