Nicolas Cage married for the fifth time, says he and Riko Shibata are “very happy”

Nicolas Cage woke up full moon again, revealing that he married his girlfriend, Riko Shibata, last month.

“It’s true and we’re very happy,” the 57-year-old actor said in a statement to People magazine.

The couple was caught at a “small and intimate wedding” at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas on February 16, a day chosen to honor the birthday of Cage’s deceased father. The couple exchanged Shinto and Catholic vows, and the ceremony included haiku poems as well as Walt Whitman’s poetry.

Cage and Shibata, 26, met in Shiga, Japan, more than a year ago, according to Vanity Fair. They were photographed in February 2020 – with Shibata at the time identified only as a “mysterious woman” – paying a visit to the pyramid-shaped mausoleum cage built in New Orleans to finally bury her.

Cage had announced the couple in August while appearing on Coppola’s radio show, his brother Marc “The Cope,” USA Today reported.

“She left New York and returned to Kyoto, Japan, and I returned to Nevada and hadn’t seen her in six months,” said Cage, who lives in Las Vegas. “We’re very happy together and we’re really excited to spend this time together, so we finally just said, ‘Look, I want to marry you,’ and we got engaged on FaceTime.”

The proposal included a black diamond engagement ring that Cage sent through FedEx.

This is the fifth time the actor “Wild at Heart” is married. He was previously married to Patricia Arquette, Lisa Marie Presley, Alice Kim and Erica Koike. His most recent marriage to Koike did not go away in 60 seconds, but it only took four days for Cage to file for annulment. He said he was too drunk to understand what was happening when the wedding took place.

Cage and Kim, who were married from 2004 to 2016, remain friends, and she attended his wedding to Shibata. Also in attendance were Cage and Kim’s 15-year-old son, Kal-El – named after Superman’s birth.
