Newsmax presenter Greg Kelly had a hard time with Joe Biden officially becoming president on Wednesday. So much so that he essentially wished America’s failure.
During President Biden’s inauguration day, right-wing media struggled to get a grip on the end of Donald Trump’s presidency. After receiving praise for Trump’s “ gracious ” departure from the White House – Trump skipped the inauguration after instigating a rebellious riot – One America News, for example, pretty much ignored Biden’s swearing-in.
Newsmax, meanwhile, took a different route. In addition to lavishly praising the outgoing president, they painted Biden’s critically acclaimed inaugural speech, aimed at unity and restoring the nation, as “dark” and “divisive.” And through primetime, they followed competitor Fox News’ lead by ignoring Biden’s inaugural concert “ Celebrating America. ”
This is where Kelly stepped in.
The former Fox News personality, who helped Newsmax attract disaffected Trump supporters by happily peddling election denial, kicked off his program Wednesday night by openly hoping that Biden will fail as president.
What do you think of Joe Biden? He’s the President of the United States, ”Kelly growled. “It’s okay, ladies and gentlemen, to say you don’t wish the president good luck.”
To make sure his viewers knew he wanted Biden “no harm” and, after a short pause, “wants him to be healthy and happy in his life,” Kelly explained why he wanted the new president to fail.
“I don’t wish Joe Biden any success,” he stated, adding that he does not want Biden to join the Paris Climate Agreement or nuclear deals with Iran.
“So it’s actually okay to say you don’t want to see Joe Biden succeed,” Kelly went on with his justification. Remember he’s the head of the executive. Okay? And we have three branches and they are all equivalent. Fair enough? Fair enough.”
At the very least, Kelly now acknowledges that Biden is the president, which is a big advance for the Trumpian host. Even after his network – which initially refused to recognize Biden’s election victory – eventually admitted that Biden was president-elect after the December 14 vote in the electoral college, Kelly continued to harbor hope.
In addition to repeatedly saying that he did not “personally feel” that Biden was president-elect, Kelly continued to convince himself (and his audience) that “it is not over yet” and that the president’s futile lawsuits were the decisive victory. van Biden, telling Trump not to even admit the incendiary riots.
