New York’s COVID positivity rate, hospital admissions are declining

The coronavirus positivity rate in New York hit its lowest level in a month, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Saturday.

Of the 260,700 test results reported Friday, 7,283 or 2.79 percent were positive, Cuomo said.

The statewide rate on Friday, measured on a seven-day average, was 3.31 percent, slightly less than the previous day and the lowest since December 2. In New York City, the rate fell from 3.88 percent the day before to 3.69 percent.

Hospital admissions of COVID-19 statewide also fell to 4,241 on Friday, which Cuomo said was the lowest number since Dec. 3.

There were 57 COVID-19 deaths statewide, including 32 among New York City residents.

A total of 11,669,171 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine doses have been released in the state with 282,305 injections in the 24 hours from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, Cuomo announced.

Almost a quarter of all New Yorkers have completed their vaccination series.
