BROOKLYN – New Yorkers rushed to the Brooklyn Army Terminal on Thursday night, after a false rumor circulated on social networks and WhatsApp about an excess of coronavirus vaccine doses.
Doses were only available to people with appointments, said Mayor’s spokesman Bill Neidhardt. The city sent people to the Brooklyn Army terminal to ask people without an appointment to leave.
“There is no vaccine available for people without programming,” he wrote on Twitter. “This was misinformation and the notification did not come from the governor of New York. We are sending people to the Brooklyn Army terminal to ask ordinary people to return home if they do not have appointments.”
The video showed a long line and many waiting in cars.

Posting on social media said there were more than 410 doses to be administered in the next few hours. Councilor Justin Brannan expressed frustration with the post.
“You may have seen this false image. As a result, there is now a line of people outside the Brooklyn Army terminal who will not be vaccinated,” he wrote on Twitter. “I know we’re all desperate to get vaccinated, but sharing such things does more harm than good and is confusing.”
