The New York Yankees replaced Adam Ottavino in the Boston Red Sox.
The deal is the first deal between rivals AL East since Stephen Drew and Kelly Johnson were involved in 2014.
In addition to Ottavino, the Yankees have announced that they are sending RHP Frank German to Boston, a source telling ESPN’s Buster Olney that $ 850,000 is going to the Red Sox. Boston, on the other hand, will send either a player who will be named later or cash considerations to New York.
Ottavino signed a three-year, $ 27 million contract with the Yankees before the 2019 season.
He proved to be an essential part of the New York bullpen’s back-end in 2019, reaching 1.90 ERA in 73 appearances that season. However, 2020 proved to be a challenge for Ottavino, as he had an ERA of 5.89 and blew three saves in 24 appearances.
