New York Mets acquire Cleveland Indians’ Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco on successful deal

The New York Mets acquired star shortstop Francisco Lindor and right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco in a successful deal with the Cleveland Indians.

Instead, Cleveland received short films Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez and two potential minor league players – right-hander Josh Wolf and outfielder Isaiah Greene.

The transaction marks the Mets’ first major move since owner Steve Cohen completed his franchise acquisition last year.

Indians are also saving significant wages in 2021, splitting from Lindor ($ 19.5 million) and Carrasco ($ 12 million).

Since making his MLB debut in 2015, Lindor ranks first among all WAR shortstops (28.4), home runs (138) and extra-based hits, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

It also ranks second in RBI (411) and runs (508) and fifth in OPS (.835) and slugging (.485), while beating .285. At 27, Lindor won four All-Star nods, two gold gloves and two Silver Sluggers to compete in the World Series in 2016 and took second place in the 2015 AL Rookie of the Year vote.

Carrasco, 33, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2019 and returned in the same season, becoming AL Comeback Player of the Year. He was seventh in the AL with 2.91 ERA over 12 starts last season and was sixth with 82 shots in 68.0 innings

Carrasco is 88-73 with an ERA of 3.77 and 1,305 shots in 242 games during his 11-year career with Cleveland.

The 25-year-old Rosario managed .268 with 32 homers and 148 RBIs in 403 games with the Mets from 2017 to ’20.

Gimenez, 22, beat .263 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 49 games last year.
