New York is calling for action after discovering more cases of the new variant of COVID-19

Since the variant was discovered in the United Kingdom, the New York authorities have demanded stricter measures from Washington to control progress in the United States and, in the absence of responses, have taken action themselves.

For example, Cuomo has agreed with the airlines connecting UK airports with those in New York to test passengers and increased vigilance over the quarantines to which those arriving in the state, especially from the UK, should be subjected.

The governor also announced that a new record for COVID-19 testing in the state had been set the previous day, totaling more than 258,000, for a population of just under 20 million people.

Of these, 6.57% were positive, while 188 deaths were recorded.

According to the state census, a total of 31,519 people in New York have died from the coronavirus, out of the nearly 370,000 who have died in the United States.
