New Batwoman star Javicia Leslie has revealed if she’s been talking to Ruby Rose since she took off her cloak. When the switch was announced, many fans feared that the departure of the former star would be the end of the show. Rose decided to pursue other opportunities after the end of season 1. But Leslie was revealed as a replacement and immediately stabilized the faith among the fans. In a conversation with Variety, the star explained that she did not talk to the former Batwoman yet. It seems that this comes from the fact that the character is a completely different woman now. Kate Kane and Ryan Wilder are fascinatingly different in many ways. According to Leslie, writing the new season accentuates this in ways you shouldn’t reinforce by trying to play from what Rose did last season.
“The writers and the showrunner have already done a great job, so I didn’t have to intentionally try to be different,” Leslie explained. “Writing has allowed this character to stand out on his own, and of course we are two different individuals, so my natural energy entering him will already be different. I think my only task is to appear and have fun and play in the story that has already been created. “
Batwoman the star was vocal about how much she looked forward to presenting to Ryan’s fans. At DC FanDome Last Ear, she explained a little more about the perspective shift heading into season 2. The actress also acknowledges that it’s really a dream to be part of the larger Arrowverse advancing.
“Already, Batwoman stands out because she doesn’t have a superpower,” Leslie said. “All she uses is her intelligence and Luke [Fox] and her physical strength. So, I look forward to playing the role from Ryan’s perspective, this street kid’s perspective. From a person who saw these superheroes growing up. Because this was also very important for Ryan to see Batwoman as a lesbian, for her superhero model to be looked at. So not just to fill those shoes, but for [be] with those who have already done it, I think it will be a lot for her. It will be a culture shock for her, but I also think it’s very cool. “
