New Ideas won 17 of 19 mayors in San Salvador, according to preliminary results

ARENA maintained its mayoralty in Ayutuxtepeque, while Guazapa remained with the PCN mayor. The two mayoralties that failed to defeat the New Ideas.

By Monday afternoon, the website for broadcasting the results of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (EST) reported that in San Salvador, the New Ideas party consisted of 17 mayors from the 19 municipalities with the most populous department in El Salvador.

The head of San Salvador was won by the New Ideas-GANA coalition, with 61,001 votes, representing 89.2% of the minutes counted until 3 in the afternoon, thus displacing the mayor of ARENA, Ernesto Muyshondt.

Mario Duran, A former interior minister and former councilor of San Salvador City Hall in the Nayib Bukele municipal administration, he will lead the capital’s commune from May 1.

San Martín, Panchimalco, Aguilares, Tonacatepeque, Santo Tomás, Santiago Texacuangos, El Paisnal, Rosario de Mora, Ciudad Delgado, Soyapango, Cuscatancingo, San Marcos, Ilopango, Mejicanos, Nejapa and Apopa, will pass into the hands of the New Ideas or the NI- coalition WINS.

In Mejicanos, FMLN Mayor Simón Paz was not re-elected. In that city, New Ideas also won in coalition with CD.

Fidel Fuentes, one of the emblematic mayors of the FMLN in San Marcos, is reportedly overthrown by Nuevas Ideas.

While other municipalities have kept the same mayors, they are: Guazapa, who decided to keep his mayor José Armado Barrera, from the PCN in his municipal mayor’s office.

Ayutuxtepeque also remained in the hands of the current mayor of ARENA, Alejandro Nóchez, who is in his fourth term in the city.
