This morning, a group of people who identified themselves as the bases of the New Ideas (NI) party showed their support for the re-election of Mayor Miguel Pereira, who leads with the FMLN flag. In addition, they rejected the candidacy of Will Salgado, who is running for the official alliance of GANA and New Ideas.
The militants who participated in the event stated that they support Pereira, but not FMLN.
In turn, on social networks, the president of Nuevas Ideas, Xavi Zablah Bukele, criticized the event and said that Pereira uses the Nuevas Ideas logo to give strength to his campaign.
The mayor presented these statements and said that it is not his fault that “the New Ideas militancy supports us in the city of San Miguel”.
At this event, held in a restaurant in San Miguel, NI militants supported Pereira, but supported the candidates for deputy in the department presented by Nuevas Ideas.
Salgado, a candidate for the ruling alliance and who has been mayor of San Miguel for 15 years, denied being representatives of the New Ideas party.
“This is false. At that event were veterans and community leaders from the FMLN and some from the Armed Forces. There was no one from New Ideas,” he said.
He also added that Pereira could suffer an “electoral crime because he used the flag, logo and name of a party to which he does not belong, he wanted to defraud the Miguel electorate by showing support that does not exist.”
However, Pereira claims that he was invited to the event and said that those who used the Nueva Ideas logos are the militants and affiliates of that party.
“It is an event of theirs that they held to make a decision to support Miguel Pereira, they also stated that for the deputies they go with New Ideas and that they continue to support the President of the Republic, but that for the mayor Will he does not represent.
