Last month, Apple interrupted two iMac configurations with 512 GB and 1 TB of SSD storage for the 21.5-inch iMac with 4K display, fueling speculation of an iMac ad based on Apple Silicon. The rumors were true: not only did Apple officially announce iMacs receive impressive M1 processors, but Apple’s new iMacs will eventually be available in colors other than gray.
The new iMac looks more like an Apple Display Pro XDR, so the back is flat rather than curved, and the frames are thin up to just 0.06 inches thin and that It has a 24-inch Retina display, 4.5K with 11.3 million pixels and 500 nits of brightness. All new iMacs will be available in all bold rainbow colors. (Still, it keeps its gray signature, though.) I’m glad to see that Apple is once again embracing color for the Mac, which it abandoned after the iMac G3.
The new iMacs also have a new 1080p HD webcam and a smart display that automatically adjusts brightness and color according to the environment. Apple has also increased the power of the iMac sound system, which includes six speakers. offers multiple distortion-free bass, mids and highs and supports spatial sound. Apple says these are the best cameras, microphones and speakers on the Mac. However, last summer’s Intel iMac also has a 1080p camera and a range of 3 microphones, so this isn’t entirely new, but the M1 probably makes them better.
There is also a new magnetic power connector, and the AC adapter now has an Ethernet port. Touch ID is also now available for iMacs with the Magic Keyboard and works with faster user switching, so you can instantly switch to your own profile with your fingerprint.

Apple plans to launch its new iMacs starting at $ 1,299 ($ 1,249 for education) for a 7-core processor and $ 1,499 for an 8-core processor. Each model comes with SSD storage of only 256 GB, and the more expensive version comes in several colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver. The cheaper model comes in green, pink, blue and silver. There is also a $ 1,699, 8-core model which comes with 512 GB of SSD storage, but all models will have 8 GB of memory.
Orders open on April 30 and will begin shipping in the second half of May.
