Nebraska has seen higher gas prices than the region

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Gas prices in Nebraska are rising daily, and the state has one of the highest averages in the Midwest.

The average gas in Nebraska is now $ 2,693. The national average is one tenth of a cent higher at $ 2,712. In Lancaster County, it is even higher than $ 2,749. AAA has a map that breaks down gas prices by country, state and county. Experts say the increase is due to several reasons, but mainly the price of crude oil is high, and severe cold weather has shut down refineries across the country.

“The good news is that some of these refineries are coming back online, deliveries are coming back to the station,” said Nick Faustman, AAA Nebraska. “However, the price of crude oil has been steadily rising so far this calendar year.”

Experts add that the state average also depends on gas taxes. Gas saving tips include buying gas, comparing what certain stations charge.
