NASA to provide updates on “first” perseverance since landing on Mars – NASA Mars Exploration Program

The perseverance package

Mission team members participate in a virtual teleconference to discuss the steps taken so far since landing on February 18 and the next ones.

Since the NASA Perseverance Mars 2020 rover reached Jezero Crater on February 18, mission controllers have made substantial progress as they prepare the rover for the unpaved road ahead. Mission team members from Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California will discuss the “first” missions completed so far and those who will come in a media conference call at 3:30 p.m. EST (12:30 p.m.) on Friday, March 5th.

The teleconference sound and accompanying images will be broadcast live on NASA’s JPL YouTube channel.

Discussing the rover’s progress will be:

  • Robert Hogg, Deputy Director of the Perseverance Mission, JPL
  • Anais Zarifian, perseverance mobility test engineer, JPL
  • Katie Stack Morgan, assistant scientist in the perseverance project, JPL

Media members and the public can ask questions on social media during the teleconference using #CountdownToMars.

Since landing, NASA’s largest and most sophisticated rover on Mars has so far checked every system and subsystem and sent back thousands of images from Jezero Crater. These checks will continue in the coming days, and the rover will make its first units. Each system check and final stage marks a significant step forward as the rover prepares for surface operations. The primary mission is scheduled for a Martian year, or 687 days on Earth.
