While people were looking forward to NASA’s Perseverance rover on Thursday successfully touched Mars, snapshots flooded social networks of enthusiastic spectators who hit a position on the red planet.
Most were provided by NASA Mars Perseverance photo booth, a virtual photo op where you can upload an image to see yourself (or a certain one) senator curmudgeonly) posing on Mars, next to NASA’s robotic rover or the Atlas V rocket that launched it into space or on the ground to control the mission. It is one of many interactive features the agency created for space lovers to get into the hype, including more themed filters for social media, an interactive launch package and a 3-D tour of Perseverance.

NASA initially launched its Perseverance-themed online goodies suite last summer, but the long-awaited launch of the rover this week led to a new wave of pseud0-Mars selfies on Twitter, Instagram and the like. (If you broke one, feel free to share it in the comments!)

The NASA rover successfully landed on Mars at 15:55 ET (12:55 pm PT) on Thursday, reaching Jezero crater, the site of a former lake and river delta. The 2,260-pound rover wipes out the Red Planet for the next two years, looking for evidence that it once housed microscopic life. Perseverance, which is now the fifth rover to reach the Martian surface, is one of three missions to reach the planet this month along with Hope Probe from the United Arab Emirates and China’s Tianwen-1 mission.
