Narineh Avakian: Glendale woman who went missing while hiking Angeles National Forest, found dead, police say

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST (KABC) – A Glendale woman who went missing last weekend while hiking in the Angeles National Forest was found dead Saturday, police said.

Narineh Avakian was found near the Mount Waterman Trail. According to Glendale Police Sgt. Christian Hauptmann.

Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities said there was no foul play upon her death. The cause of death is under investigation.

“Before she left, Narineh told her family that she would take a one-day walking tour, but that she had not specified a location and never returned home,” said Hauptmann.

Narineh’s family told police it was common for her to go for walks with groups and on solo outings, although she recently went solo.

Earlier this week, Glendale police contacted the woman’s walking groups to distribute flyers about missing persons, posted a missing persons bulletin on social media platforms and reported that she was driving a Subaru Impreza, California sign 8JSH794.

Around 3 p.m. Thursday, the vehicle was parked in the Buckhorn Day Use Area along Angeles Crest Highway, Hauptmann said.

“It should be noted that this area was badly affected by the recent snowstorm,” he said.

“Locating Narineh’s vehicle promptly deployed search and rescue personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with a large number of sworn and volunteer personnel,” said Hauptmann. Their search efforts continued while about 12 inches of snow fell during the night; but due to worsening weather conditions, the search ended around 2am (Friday) morning. A few hours later, the search was resumed with even more resources and is currently underway. active. ”

Glendale police investigators were sent to examine the vehicle and have it towed back to the police station for further processing, Hauptmann said.
