My sole cries for these RTX 3080 shoes

I honestly don’t know where to start with this pair of tracksuits that PC maker NZXT and Artifact Studios fashion suits announced last night. At first, I thought it was just a sleek sneaker, with an RTX 3080 grounded in the heel – a feat that, during a global lack of graphics cards, would have made my soul cry big salty tears of bitter dissatisfaction. On closer inspection, however, they appear to have built an entire PC inside this huge piece of footwear, with an NZXT cooler, motherboard and fans, all visible through the purple transparent side panel. It’s an impressive feat, for sure, but I have so many questions. How does it work? How many feet per second can you travel in these things? And will the fans help me keep my toes beautiful and cool or will they break my soles into absolute pieces?

I’m kidding, of course, but he asks me if this is the logical goal of the weird love affair in the shoe industry right now. After all, after you’ve stuck an entire PC in your gaming shoe, where else do you go? Laces that double as control cables?

So far, it doesn’t look like the NZXT x RTFKT shoes still have a name of their own, but here’s what they look like in the flesh.

It is also unclear if or when they will be available for purchase, as the Artifact website only indicates a sign-up button for their email list at this time. Indeed, the only thing Artifact Studios has actually said about shoes so far is contained in a a single tweet: “We are extremely excited to announce a partnership with NZXT, empowering RTFKT and the community of our creators to create the future of fashion and collections, fueling our vision, community and crazy ideas with their wonderful constructions and love for games.”

Does this mean that people will be able to create their own customizable versions of these PC shoes at some point? Or will it be a unique business? Who can say.

These NZXT sneakers are not the first shoes that Artifact made for games. Take a quick look at their Instagram page, for example, and their crazy collection of gaming shoes is heading through April 2019. There are Air Jordans inspired by Minecraft, pink Fall Guys color trainers, and PlayStation 5 trainers with cute little buttons on the tongue to name just a few.

Would you buy a pair of computer sneakers if you had the chance?
