CBS has released a new clip featuring Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with Oprah Winfrey, in which Markle says of Buckingham Palace: “I don’t know how we would be expected to be silent after all this time.”
“What do you think about the fact that the Palace heard you tell your truth today?” Winfrey asks, as the violins begin to swell dramatically in the background.
“I don’t know how one would expect us to remain silent after all this time, if there’s an active role the company plays in perpetuating the fakes about us,” says Markle, using a nickname for kings apparently from King George of England. VI.
“And if this comes with the risk of losing things,” she adds, “there are many that have already been lost.”
Much of the conversation around this week’s interview was monopolized by accusations made against 39-year-old Markle that she assaulted at least two palace assistants during her short time at the company. The Times of London quoted sources as saying that the Duchess of Sussex had effectively reduced staff to tears during her tenure at Kensington Palace.
Markle called the allegations a “calculated smear campaign,” which was sent to Winfrey because Buckingham Palace announced an investigation into the allegations on Wednesday.
Markle and Harry left the Royal Family and moved to the States in a breathless covered decision in January 2020, called “Megxit”.
