Ms World withdraws crown from Ms Sri Lanka after falsely claiming her ineligibility as divorced

Things took a dramatic turn for Pushpika De Silva, the winner of the Ms. Sri Lanka beauty pageant, after former incumbent and Mrs. World 2020, Caroline Jurie, snatched the crown from her head.

According to CNN, Jurie falsely claimed that De Silva was divorced and therefore not eligible to participate in the contest.

“I have a small request,” Jurie told CNN. “As for Mrs. World Inc., there is a rule that you must be married and not divorced. So, I take my first step by saying that the crown reaches the first place in the championship. ”

The jury then proceeded to forcibly remove the crown from De Silva’s head and placed the first finalist, CNN reports.

The organizers later declared De Silva the official winner of the contest, saying in a statement that competitors who were “legally married” were eligible to compete.

According to a press release, the organizers of Mrs. World Inc. said they were analyzing the incident.

“Let it be known, Mrs. World Inc. it is not in moral judgment “, the statement says. “If the delegate sent by Sri Lanka-World to compete in the international competition is legally married, he will be accepted.”
