More than 200 Puerto Rican soldiers will be mobilized to support Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington DC

More than 200 troops of the National Guard of Puerto Rico will attend the inauguration of the President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, at the federal Capitol, in Washington DC, to be part of the security stakes that have raged in the compound after the uprising sparked last week by crowds following Donald Trump.

Puerto Rico’s Adjutant General José J. Reyes reported that the civilian soldiers are part of the 92nd Military Police Brigade of the National Guard. They are expected to depart tomorrow from Muñiz Air Base in Carolina

The inauguration of Biden will take place on Wednesday January 20.

The number of National Guard troops at the event, which corresponds to different states and territories, could exceed 20,000, Washington Police Chief Robert Contee said yesterday.

EFE Agency reported this at this time This weekend 10,000 troops will be sent to Washington, double the current US military presence in Afghanistan.

Dozens of soldiers were stationed in the Capitol, where they had to sleep on the floor. This is the first time since the American Civil War that raged from 1861 to 1865.

Last week hundreds of supporters of the president Donald Trump stormed the Capitol while Congress counted the electoral college votes for Biden. Faced with the turmoil, House and Senate sessions halted, but in the evening they finally confirmed the former US Vice President’s victory in the Nov. 3 election.

Despite the movement of soldiers, Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told the Washington Post this week that they should be careful as the threat of demonstrations is developing not just in the federal capital, but around 50 states.
