Monsoon floods in Indonesia: more than 1,300 in Jakarta were forced to evacuate

Severe monsoon floods in several areas of Indonesia’s capital forced more than 1,300 people to evacuate on Saturday, Reuters reported.

The whole picture: The country’s meteorological agency has warned that conditions are expected to worsen, as the heaviest rain of the season could fall in and around Jakarta over the next week, according to Reuters.

  • Officials said early Saturday that about 200 neighborhoods were affected by the floods.
  • The floodwaters reached almost 6 meters in some areas, according to Reuters.
  • The news agency noted that floods are coming as the country continues to see a large number of coronavirus cases.
