MLS is investigating Inter Miami for signing Blaise Matuidi

Major League Soccer has announced that it is investigating the signing of midfielder Blaise Matuidi by Inter Miami CF.

The French international joined Inter Miami for a free transfer in August 2020, after three seasons at Juventus in Serie A and signed as a money player rather than as a designated professional, causing some surprise at the time.

“Major League Soccer has begun a formal review of Inter Miami CF’s signing of midfielder Blaise Matuidi, specifically investigating whether the player’s signature has met the salary budget and guidelines of the Major League Soccer list,” the league said in a statement. .

“MLS will not comment until its investigation is completed.”

The club responded with a statement saying: “Inter Miami CF acknowledges the statement made today by Major League Soccer and we look forward to fully participating in the league review process. We will have no further comments.”

Inter Miami belongs in part to former Manchester United and LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham, and Mexican Rodolfo Pizarro is one of his first franchised players.
