One of the biggest sluggers left on the open market is close to finding a home.
The Atlanta Braves announced that they and the outfielder Marcell Ozuna agreed on a four-year, $ 65 million deal. The contract would include a fifth-year option that could raise the total to $ 80 million.
Ozuna, 30, ended up with the Braves last winter in a one-year “prove it” deal after starting her career with the Miami Marlins and making a stop in St. Louis. Louis also with the Cardinals.
In the shortened season of 2020, the native of the Dominican Republic appeared in all 60 games and had a triple bar of .338 / .431 / .636 to go along with 18 rounds of home, a crazy 179 wRC + and .444 wOBA and 2.5 fWAR.
Ozuna played on the left field in just 19 games last year, having spent most of the campaign as Atlanta’s designated player. While most of Ozuna’s production comes with the stick, he also proved to be an average player.
For his career, he has 12 saved defensive runs (DRS) and a final zone range of 25.6 (UZR). However, if Major League Baseball establishes a universal DH, we have to imagine that this is how Atlanta will unfold it.
Ozuna is represented by CAA Sports.
