The Chicago Bears passed the Mitchell Trubisky era, signing Andy Dalton in the process. Although things did not end as I am sure, Trubisky wished he had found a new home in Buffalo.
As reported last week, Trubisky signed a $ 2 million, one-year, $ 1.5 million contract with Bills, along with a $ 500,000 signing bonus. He can win up to $ 4.5 million with $ 2 million in incentives, but that would take some playing time.
On Monday, Trubisky concluded the deal, making him the official Bills secondary defender.

Even though their Chicago chapter is over – for now – there seems to be no harsh feelings at the end of them. Trubisky was one of the most polarizing figures while playing quarterback for the Bears. Trubisky put the team first, ran smoothly, was always great with the media, was a great representative for the Bears – being friendly and a good role model for kids and won football games. Even after all this, it seemed like he could never take a break from fans, former players and the media.
Correctly, Trubisky went 25-13 under Matt Nagy, throwing 57 touchdowns, 30 interceptions and completing 65.3% of his passes. He also made the playoffs twice (0-2) and made the Pro Bowl in 2018.
Trubisky holds the record for most passing yards for a Bears debutant defender, along with being the fastest defender to reach 10,000 yards in Bears’ jersey.
He will leave the Bears in first place in the passer rating (minimum 300 attempts), fifth in the passing yards, fifth in the passing touchdowns and fifth in victories. It’s not a bad race in just 50 starts. Trubisky is also the only NFL defender to play more than 50 games and not throw a career pick.
For Trubisky in the future, Bills’ GM, Brandon Beane, doesn’t see him staying in Buffalo for long:
“This is a great reset for him and we don’t expect him to be here in the long run,” he said. “We hope that in a year he will have the chance to come back and get a nice contract and a starting job somewhere.”
Working with the same group that helped Josh Allen make an impressive leap from Year 2 to Year 3 should help Trubisky improve as a defender. If Trubisky can make a leap and win a chance to start somewhere in 2022, the decision to come to Buffalo as a reserve will have been a good one.
