A 17-year-old man who disappeared during a snowmobile in Canada was hailed for his survival skills after building a snow cave to survive.

The teenager from British Columbia, whose name was not released, got lost on Saturday around 6.15pm, when he was separated from his group near Spanish Lake.

The quick-thinking survivor parked his sleigh in a visible area near a wooded area – while his family and friends returned to the parking lot and called South Cariboo Search and Rescue, which reported it to the Royal Canadian Police.

“This young man did everything right after things went wrong,” SAR Cariboo de Sud said on Facebook.

“This young man did everything right after things went wrong,” said SAR Cariboo South

The volunteer organization found the teenager around 10:34 p.m. “in good condition” with food and water and reunited him with his family around midnight.

“This young man made our task a little less difficult, staying put and having some knowledge of winter survival in the country,” the organization posted.

Val Severin, search manager at South Cariboo Search and Rescue, told the CBC that the teenager’s choices were “quite mature.”

‘He did not panic and did not lose track of the situation. He understood exactly what he had to do, Severin said.

Earlier this month, a California teenager survived nearly 30 hours after being caught in the snow on a mountain in Utah and building a snow cave for shelter in another incident.

Nicolas Stacy-Alcantara, who is also 17 years old, visited Fresno to visit an ex-girlfriend and made a day trip on January 2nd.

“I like hiking, my head is a little clear,” he told a news conference at the University of Utah.

He took an Uber on a canyon east of Salt Lake City, bringing six peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and 40 ounces of water with him. He planned to be out all day and return in time for dinner after hiking 16 miles from Millcreek Canyon to Park City.

Stacy-Alcantara was trapped in the snow and dug a snow cave, where she slept overnight.

He eventually found other hikers who had a satellite phone and flew out of the canyon by helicopter.
