Puerto Rico has a new queen.
It is about Cristina Mariel Ríos, who today becomes a representative at the Miss Earth international contest, after the dismissal of Valerie Vigoreaux as queen.
“Since its inception, Miss Earth Puerto Rico has positioned itself in an extraordinary way in the international pageant and we have no doubt that this time will not be the exception,” the directors of the local pageant said in a written statement.
Cristina Mariel was first completed in November last year, when Valerie Vigoreaux was crowned then. The 19-year-old is originally from San Sebastián, a city she represented at the time.
“From the first day she had the support of her family, which is very important for her and for a large community in the agricultural sector of her city. Cristina, as a student in her first year of environmental technology, with a concentration in environmental chemistry, will organize the FFA organization on February 23 a management, reforestation and cleaning workshop. In the meantime, on February 6, there will be a clearing and reforestation in an abandoned nature reserve in Isabela. The newly selected queen has a deep commitment to promoting the care of our natural resources and has already begun preparing for the international competition, “it was reported.
Last week, the directors of Miss Earth Puerto Rico announced the dismissal of Valerie Vigoreaux. Both Valerie and the competition directors expressed that they could not reach agreements, so the young woman will not represent the Island in the international competition scheduled for October this year.
