Mirage extends mid-week hotel closures to casino, restaurants

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – The Mirage Casino Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip will be closed Monday through Wednesday from January 4, according to a company spokesman.

A representative of MGM Resorts told 13 Action News that the mid-week closure is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the company does not anticipate the small operations that will take place last February, but will continue to reassess the situation.

Last month, the company announced that its hotel tower operations would be closed in the middle of the week and said it did not expect these closures to last until December. Monday’s announcement extends closures to all other Mirage facilities.

13 Action News financial analyst Steve Budin said that if the number of visits does not increase, we could see more hotels following the example.

“All casinos will analyze the data and if the numbers of visits do not improve, they can see them closing,” Budin said.

Other companies on the Strip, such as Planet Hollywood, Mandalay Bay, Park MGM, Palazzo Tower and Encore, have dark days during the week, but only impact hotel hours.

Given that business levels during the week remained low due to COVID-19 and restrictions on group meetings, we decided to temporarily close Mirage on Monday – Wednesday, January 4, 2021. This closure will include the casino, hotel and restaurants, in addition to all other facilities. Although we do not currently expect the mid-week closure to take effect in February, we will continue to assess how long the mid-week closure of the Mirage hotel will remain in effect.
