We analyze the adverse situations that the president of the MX League had to face in less than 50 days in office
Mikel Arriola has not yet completed fifty days in charge of the MX League and has already had to deal with at least five scandals as president of the Mexican tournament. The former PRI candidate for head of government has been put to the test with situations such as the Covid 19 outbreak in Monterrey that affected America, the problem of recording Atlético Morelia, the indiscipline of pandemic players, alleged acts of racism in Alfonso Lastras and now an alleged misalignment of the azulcrema team.
The last two scandals facing Mikel Arriola were born on the seventh day of the Guardians 2021. One is Santos’ complaint against Atlético San Luis, for alleged racist acts against his player Félix Torres, and the other is the complaint for an alleged misalignment of America in the match against Atlas, in which the player Federico Viñas is involved.
The president of the MX League used Twitter as a way to express his position in the face of the controversies faced by his administration. In Santos’ case, he reacted immediately and assured that “any kind of discrimination will not be tolerated in the MX League”, but in the controversy between America and Atlas he made an “exit” and barely retweeted the Commission’s publication. Disciplinary, in which it is announced that an investigation is being opened to resolve the conflict between the two teams.
Arriola’s silence is surprising in the case of America, because it covered well other problems he had during the 49 days at the helm of the MX League. In the conflict between Monterrey and the Eagles, on the second day, the president reacted by bringing together all the representatives of the clubs in the MX League, in an emergency meeting and consolidating the health protocol.
In the indiscipline of players like Alana Mozo and Jonathan Rodríguez during the pandemic, Mikel Arriola and his team devised a mechanism to punish footballers who broke out of protocol during the Covid 19 emergency, which ultimately serves as a another tool clubs can maintain control over their elements.
In the Atlético Morelia controversy, which was selected for the enrollment of more than eight players older than the age set in the tournament, in the MX League, in this case the Expansion League, they accepted common guilt and the Purepecha team received only a fine. In addition, there have been changes in the structure of the Mexican tournament.
In the case of Santos v. San Luis, Mikel Arriola immediately condemned racism and his team explained how the case was handled. With America, so far there is no MX League position other than a statement reporting the action of the Disciplinary Commission, which will be the entity that decides whether the Eagles lose the table game or the fourth referee is found guilty.
