Mikaela Shiffrin wins the combined gold for the 6th world title

Mikaela Shiffrin won the women’s team on Monday to set an American record with the sixth world title.

Shiffrin has four golds in slalom and one in super-G from previous worlds.

Shiffrin placed third after the super-G section, but was the fastest in the slalom, beating Petra Vlhova of Slovakia by 0.86 seconds. Olympic champion Michelle Gisin of Switzerland finished 0.89 behind for bronze.

Two of Shiffrin’s main competitors failed to complete their slalom races.

The first leader, Federica Brignone, passed the third goal, as Italy continues to wait for its first medal in the worlds this year, after five events. Current champion Wendy Holdener from Switzerland also sketched at the beginning of the race.

Lower-ranking skiers were still descending along the way.
