Miguel Coppel Godoy, a witness against former Nayarit prosecutor, Édgar Veytia, who was detained in the United States for drug trafficking, died in a hospital in the city of Nayarit on Wednesday, Cecilia Dávalos, ministerial director of the state prosecutor’s office, reported.

Coppel Godoy was held in Tepic Prison, charged with extortion and kidnapping during the Veytia government. The former prosecutor is said to have asked to his family 300 thousand pesos to release him and the deeds of his house. Three years later he was released because there was no evidence against him, but this year he was again incarcerated.
