The director of the General Directorate for Migration (DGM), Enrique García, said that I still do not know what will happen with the National Plan for the regularization of foreigners and if they will have any participation in the civil registry of Haitians living in the country.
García emphasized that the entity he leads is governed by the policies of the National Council for Migration and that they have not yet been notified of the decision of both situations mentioned above.
“Regarding the regularization plan, we, as the migration department, are executors of the policy established by the National Council for Migration. As such, we have to wait for the council to meet and take the decision it is going to take regarding the plan, “the director said.
While asked if DGM would have any participation in the civil registry of Haitians living in the Dominican Republic, following an agreement signed between the two countries, García maintained a similar answer.
“Civil registration in Haiti is a bit irregular and the Dominican Republic has been asking for a long time to try to normalize its registration. Their president has made a commitment and we will implement the migration policies established by the President of the Republic and the National Council for Migration “, said the official during the signing of a cooperation agreement between DGM and the Center for Export and Investment Dominican Republic (CEI-RD ).
Residence by investment
During the signing of the agreement, the director of DGM explained that this will “facilitate” foreigners who invest in the country to obtain their residence more easily, but that they must make a minimum investment of 200 thousand dollars.
“In our country with 200 thousand dollars that any foreigner invests, he has the option to come to the General Directorate of Migration and we give him the facilities for a residence by investment”, he explained.
He said the delivery of the investment residence takes about 45 days, faster than a “normal residence” that lasts about three months.
