Border Patrol agents thwarted a peculiar human smuggling attempt in which smugglers attempted to transfer their human cargo in an ice cream truck, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported Friday.
The incident, which the federal agency described as “ unique, ” took place at dusk on Feb. 24 when agents assigned to the Laredo South Station observed a group of individuals entering several vehicles, including one. Ice cream truckCBP said in a bulletin.
“Officers sought help from the Laredo Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, and together they were able to arrest 17 people in connection with the truck. All people found inside, including the driver and the co-pilot, both US citizens, were arrested, ”the text says.
It adds that the people who were irregularly in the United States, from Guatemala and Mexico, have been detained while further investigations are ongoing.
The CBP He emphasized that none of the detainees were wearing personal protective equipment, which had been provided to them, and that they were all subjected to a medical evaluation for their safety.
