Migrant caravan: Hondurans prepare to leave for the United States

SAN PEDRO SULA, HODNURAS.- A large group of people left Wednesday evening from the Grand Terminal of San Pedro Sula, in the north of Honduras, towards U.S in the first migrant caravan from 2021.

“I don’t have a job, I’m happy to do. Nothing is done here. I’ve struggled a lot, my children have only cost me, I am a single mother,” says one of the migrants, who travels with her two 11-year-old children. . and 6 years old.

Since December last year, several calls have been sent via social networks to join the “caravan of January 15, 2021” which was to depart from the industrial city of the country. This has been the starting point for more than a dozen caravans since the first was organized in October 2018 and brought together more than 3,000 people.

Faced with the massive displacement of migrants, the governments of Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico they started signing up.

Delegations from the three countries toured the Corinto border point, some 200 kilometers north of Tegucigalpa, on Monday, “with the aim of taking steps to ensure full care of the caravan,” a statement from the Guatemalan representation said.
