Michigan Wolverines QB Joe Milton enters the NCAA transfer portal

Michigan quarterback Joe Milton entered his name on the transfer portal on Thursday. The third-year quarterback will have three years of eligibility left, as the NCAA has granted an additional year of eligibility and Milton has not yet used his red shirt season.

Milton was an ESPN 300 candidate in the 2018 class, described as raw and in need of time to develop and played in four games in his first season.

After playing in four games in 2019, Milton was named the starter of the 2020 season. He helped Michigan win against Minnesota in the opening, completing 15 of 22 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown.

He threw for 644 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the next two games, both losses, against Michigan and Indiana. He was eventually replaced by Cade McNamara, who started the last two games of the season for Michigan.

Michigan has made changes to its coaching staff this season, which would have an impact on the position, parting ways with coach Ben McDaniels. Head coach Jim Harbaugh now plans to work with the defenders and has also added defenders coach Mike Hart and Ron Bellamy to coach the wide receivers.

Wolverines will still have McNamara on the roster and have added ESPN 300 quarterback JJ McCarthy in this 2021 round. McCarthy is number 25 in the overall rookie rankings and number 2 in the bottom line with two threats.

Milton transfers as a graduate transfer and will be eligible immediately for any program he chooses.
