Michigan Medicine expands eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination at the system level

ANN TREE – Michigan Medicine announced in an e-mail to staff on Monday that it has expanded the priority group of phase 1A vaccine COVID-19 after the administration of over 11,000 vaccines since December 14.

Based on state recommendations, those now eligible for a Phase 1A vaccine at the University of Michigan include:

  • Anyone working in a role at Michigan Medicine or the University of Michigan who works in a clinical setting (i.e., hospital, outpatient clinic, home care) and cannot work exclusively remotely, can now receive a COVID-19 vaccine. as part of phase 1A.
  • Anyone who plays a role at the University of Michigan in a clinical setting and cannot work exclusively remotely can still receive a COVID-19 vaccine as part of Phase 1A. This includes staff and students working in the following fields: University health services, dentistry, healthcare, social care, kinesiology, public health, pharmacy and others working in a clinical setting.

“There will be enough vaccine for everyone and we expect new shipments every week,” he read.

On Monday at 9:00 a.m., Michigan Medicine reported the following vaccine data:

  • Total number of vaccine doses received by the University of Michigan: 11,950
  • Number of vaccines administered to the MU community: 10,900
  • Number of vaccines administered to the UM community on Sunday, January 3: 870
  • Number of vaccine schedules currently scheduled for Monday, January 4 and Tuesday, January 5: 1,594

With a new shipment of vaccines expected Tuesday, Michigan Medicine estimates that it will schedule the last current phase 1A group by January 12th.

Michigan Medicine administers vaccines seven days a week. On Thursday, Michigan Stadium opened as a new vaccination site, which will play a central role in inoculating tens of thousands of people as the health system receives more doses of the vaccine.
