A 26-year-old man died of injuries sustained from a malfunctioning gun at a baby shower in Michigan on Saturday, a report said.
Evan Silva was hit by metal shrapnel when the cannon – meant to celebrate the occasion – exploded inside the house in Gaines Township at about 7:30 PM, MLive.com reported, citing state police.
Silva, who was about 10 feet from the device, was the only baby shower hit by the shrapnel.
He was taken to a hospital in Flint but could not be rescued, the report said.
Investigators suspect that gunpowder loaded into the cannon set it off.
When fired successfully, the cannon, which was purchased by the homeowner at auction, produces a bright flash and a loud bang, the report said.
The homeowner fired it several times before Saturday.
