Merengue, the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, will be the protagonist of “Merengue, Tabaco y Ron”, the first documentary film that will tell through the most important musicians and performers the history and significance of the rhythm that made the dance of the whole world.
The production company Caribbean Films, responsible for the development of the project, placed Leonardo Villalobos at the helm as general producer, who was tasked with bringing together the most important chroniclers and specialists in the country and in the world, to document this invaluable material that will be launched internationally.
The main roles in this important story will be played by Dominicans Jochy Santos and Manny Cruz; Jochy, a music lover who knows Caribbean music, and Manny Cruz, who today is the greatest representative of the new generation of merengue, will be responsible for showing this work to the world.
Both will go after merengue artists of all time, to learn in depth their anecdotes, their achievements and how Merengue has impacted over the years in politics and economics, not only in the Dominican Republic but throughout the continent. .
This significant feature film is made in accordance with the law of cinema and with the direct support of the Deputy Minister of Culture Bonny Cepeda. It will also have the Azteca TV distribution internationally, for Amazon Prime and other platforms, with the executive production of C. Cerutti and J. González.
