Meghan McCain, co-host of ‘The View’, gave the media the rounds on Friday about her coverage of President Biden’s first formal press conference.
McCain began on Friday by revealing that she ‘loves’ Biden as a person, but said that ‘our role as the fourth estate’ is to ‘tell the president and the press’ with feet to the fire.
“I just want to present a scenario where President Trump was somehow magically re-elected. And in the first 60 days that he was reelected. he did not hold a press conference. When he finally held a press conference, he did not speak or answer any questions about the pandemic or answer questions from the media that disagreed with him, ”explained McCain. “Peter Doocy, was not called, Fox News was not called, which I think is a huge miss for President Biden yesterday.”
And on top of that in the news cycle, if President Trump had fallen Air Force One or if his son was involved in some very serious reports about the Secret Service and a gun … I think we would have a very different Hot Topic today. McCain continued, “And I think it’s up to us and the press not to be harmful in the way we beat President Biden.”
The Conservative co-host went on to say that just because Trump was “terrible” to the press “doesn’t mean we should give Biden passes.”
“We are still in a pandemic, there are still some crises and I don’t think he has answered nearly enough questions that I would have liked him to answer and I think the coverage has been really disturbing,” said McCain. “I watched a couple of shows this morning – no need to totally drool Joe Biden right now. He’s still the president of the United States. And I think our role in fourth booth is to put his feet up against keep the fire up and ask serious questions and ‘give him time, let him be president’, yes, but we didn’t give this [leeway] to President Obama or to President Trump. “
Much of the mainstream media heaped praise on Biden. Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin stated that the president “ excelled ” at the press conference and NBC News reporter Jonathan Allen claimed that Biden “ knocked this out of the park ” before later acknowledging that the president seemed “ tired ” and started “ leaving walk ‘in his answers.
Even Matt Drudge, founder of Drudge Report, trumpeted Biden’s performance on his website with headlines like “JOE’S NO DRAMA PRESS CONFERENCE” and “CHILL STYLE”.
