Medical Examiner: Capitol Police officer died as a result of head injuries from the blunt force

A Washington, DC medical examiner said Thursday that Capitol Police officer William “Billy” Evans has died of multiple blunt injuries after a car crashed into a barrier near the Capitol.

According to The Washington Post, Evans’ death was considered murder by the investigator.

The suspect in the car attack, 25-year-old Noah Green, was shot and murdered by police after he left the car and allegedly fired a knife at the police.

Evans, 41, died shortly after the attack last Friday.

Another Capitol Police officer who was hit in the car attack was injured but has since left the hospital.

Evans, an 18-year veteran of the armed forces, is the most recent Capitol Police officer to die this year after Brian Sicknick, who died after being injured in the Capitol riots on Jan. 6.

Officers Howard Liebengood and Jeffrey Smith both took their lives shortly after the January 6 attack.

Evans will lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda on April 13. He will be the sixth person to lie in honor in the Rotunda and the second Capitol police officer this year after Sicknick received the same tribute in February.

Evans’ family released a statement in his honor on Tuesday.

“Billy was the best father, son, brother and friend anyone could ever hope for,” said his family. Billy took pride in being a Capitol cop. His colleagues from the North Barricade were the people he spent so many hours with, and their friendship was one of the best aspects of his job. ”
