Despite the massive use of Ivermectin in the country, both preventively and in the management of patients with Covid-19, being one of the first countries to start its application, this antiparasitic drug known for decades, continues to generate controversy in the Dominican Republic. .
Doctors who maintain their use as prophylactic treatment and early management of patients with the virus claim that they have relevant data with very positive results, while officially the Ministry of Public Health has never officially included it in the management protocol of patients affected by SARS-CoV-2 causing Covid-19 disease.
Although it has not been possible to obtain data on the amount of product that pharmacies have sold nationwide, since the beginning of the pandemic this drug has become very popular in the country, the indication of which is not seen only in doctors’ prescription books. Rather, it is often part of the “self-medication” used by a large part of the population, especially in the face of difficulties in quickly accessing a diagnostic test.
